Seashell Ornament Making – Pudhumadam village, Ramnad District
In this year, we have been able to bring significant change to the lives of women in this community.
We organised a 10-day training for the TG Groups in Pudhumadam on Ornament Making with Seashells. About 15 of the women participated in the training. We motivated the women to search for opportunities with the leading companies to buy their products.
Thanks to this initiative, 12 women have secured employment with a seashell company, providing them with an opportunity to contribute to their families and community. Before the initiative, these women were confined to their homes without any chance to participate in the development of their community. With their newfound skills, they have been able to bring job opportunities to other women in the community who are unable to leave their homes due to household responsibilities.
This initiative has had a profound impact on the women, as they have developed a tendency to help and teach the skill to each other in the community. They also learned to cooperate with one another. This coordinated effort has also helped them to enhance their soft skills, and gave them an opportunity to discover their own unique personality. This has earned them self-respect and dignity in their family and community. They also have become a role model for development and forward thinking.
They are now actively participating in the growth of their community and inspiring other women in their area. This initiative has helped empower these women and bring positive change to their lives. We are continuing our work in this community and others, where women lack opportunities for growth and development.
